Brandy’s Bio
My name is Brandy Rose and I am 21 years old. I am a Junior at Humboldt State University, double majoring in Vocal Performance & Interdisciplinary Studies: Women’s Studies, and double minoring in Theater & Ethnic Studies. HSU is a wonderful sanctuary and I am learning a lot! I look forward to receiving Musical Theater training after I graduate in a year with my two Bachelor’s Degrees from Humboldt.
It has been my dream to become a professional vocalist/performer ever since I can remember. I have been singing ever since I was able to talk. I come from a very musically gifted family. My dad is an extremely talented singer; three of my uncles are music teachers; even my great-grandfather was a vaudeville performer. I began performing at 3, singing Beatles songs with my dad at weddings and various family functions. I always knew I would pursue a career in music.
It’s very important to me that I connect with my audience. I strive to emotionally touch each one of my listeners. Through music, one shares their most personal feelings, which is truly an amazing connection. Music is about making it your own; your own story, your own emotional outlet. It’s about personalizing a song to fit your situation in order to find a solution within.
Performing is the best feeling. It’s incredibly rewarding to have a talent that you can share with people. The feeling I get when I’m on stage and see an audience member light up is priceless. Knowing that just one person appreciates my performance and voice is worth all the hard work that I’ve put into enhancing my gift for all these years.
As a soloist, I sing everything from Classic Country (Patsy Cline) to Big Band Jazz (Etta James). I find foreign languages fascinating and really enjoy learning songs from different parts of the world, as each culture uses distinct techniques and uses of the voice. I enjoy challenging myself by studying and performing different varieties and styles of music in a wide range of venues, from a summer resort stage to a Relay for Life celebration.
I started taking voice lessons at 8 years old. I am originally trained in the fields of Broadway and Jazz, and later added Country and Contemporary. I am continuing my vocal training at Humboldt State, studying Classically under the instruction of Dr. Elisabeth Harrington.
I am an active member in community theatre. Recent credits include: Audrey (Little Shop of Horrors) at the North Coast Repertory Theater, Oolie/Donna (City of Angels) at Humboldt State University, and Emma Carew (Jekyll & Hyde: The Musical) at Ferndale Repertory Theatre.
I will be participating in David Green’s “Musical Theatre University Summer Stock 2010″ this summer in Laguna Beach, CA and am SO Excited!
